John H. Smith Retires May 1, 2021

The Smith, Gilliam, Williams & Miles Law Firm recently announced that John H. Smith is retiring on May 1, 2021. As one of the firm’s founding partners, he leaves behind a legacy of service to the community. We invite you to celebrate his career with us as soon as COVID-19 restrictions ease (date will be forthcoming).

For more than 30 years, John practiced as a trial lawyer in areas of insurance defense, representing insureds in personal injury and property damage claims and also served insurance companies at the corporate level. He also maintained an active trial practice in eminent domain, representing both utilities and property owners.

John served as the City Attorney for Gainesville, Georgia, for nearly a decade. He was also a U.S. Magistrate Judge, handling federal court proceedings at pretrial and trial levels. John was certified neutral for mediation and registered with the Ninth Judicial Administrative District of Dispute Resolution.

He has been an integral part of the local legal community, serving in many associations throughout his career. When not defending or helping others at work, John has been active in his community, where he plans to spend more time upon retirement.

We wish John well and plan to carry on his legacy for years to come.
